Now that it's January, I'm finally back to eating salads instead of frosted Christmas cookies for lunch. I really like the organic spring mix sold in a large clear container, but I tire of throwing them in the recycle bin. I channeled my inner "Julie Heyer" and came up with a plan to upcycle the box. 01.08.14Blog01 Funny story. I share an office with Brenda and was wondering how long it would take for her to ask what the heck I was doing with the salad greens container . . . Here's how you can annoy your officemate and create a useful fiber storage unit: 1. Measure the indented area of the lid and trim a piece of Constellations paper slightly smaller than the area. Round the corners to correspond with the lid. This will cover the unsightly "spring mix" label. Trim a second paper for the inside of the lid. 01.08.14Blog02 2. Adhere papers to the top and bottom of the lid. 01.08.14Blog04 01.08.14Blog03 3. Use a ruler and permanent marker to add evenly-spaced dots to the side walls of the container. I added three rows of dots spaced about 1.5" apart. 01.08.14Blog05 4. Make a 3/8" hole at each marked area with a punch. (I used a Crop-A-Dile Big Bite.) At this point I was making a lot of noise with the crinkling plastic, and Brenda finally said, "What the HECK are you DOING over there???" I burst out laughing. It only took until Step Four. 01.08.14Blog06 5. Place a length of ribbon into the container and thread the end out of a pre-punched hole. Repeat until all holes are filled. 01.08.14Blog12 6. Replace the lid and store the box where you can see the pretty ribbons awaiting a home on your projects! Brenda thinks it looks like a little fiber octopus. 01.08.14Blog11 01.08.14Blog09 In full disclosure, I could use about seven of these. Perhaps one for each color of the rainbow. I will make another one the next time I want to annoy my office mate. Happy salad-eating season! Tricia
