Tropicale Stitch Bound Book

Supplies

The Classic Stitch Bound Book components kit includes the items needed to create the foundation of your book. The 5x7" size is absolutely perfect for 4x6" photos or note taking. The downloadable instructions (included with purchase) teach you how to cleverly adapt the contents of any Page Kit to make a beautiful stitch bound book.

Club Scrap's monthly Page Kits consistently contain twelve 12x12" papers, photo mats, Cutaparts, and embellishments. The original project instructions call for two pieces of book cloth as cover wraps. Since book cloth is no longer available, substitute two 12x12 papers in a coordinating color to wrap the book board covers.

You'll also need a few basic tools: 12-inch trimmer, Bookbinding Glue, as well as tools for piercing and scoring paper.

Tropicale Hand-stitched Book

To replicate my handmade book, gather a Tropicale Page kit, a Stitch Bound Book components kit kit and two 12x12 black papers (for wrapping covers).

First, you'll need to make substitutions for the papers as noted in the project instructions. Next, follow the instructions to trim and sort the papers. Once all of the trimming is complete, follow the written instructions to complete the book. (For additional support, watch Tricia's video presentation on the Club Scrap Facebook page.)

The covers are wrapped in textured black paper (Fun and Games 02.22) to replicate the look of fabric. Decorate the front cover with Cutaparts and other embellishments from the Tropicale kit.

The stitched spine structure takes a bit more concentration than other book binding techniques, but the results are well worth it.

Load up the inner pages liberally with matted photos, embellishments, and Cutaparts.

The spacer signatures allow for expansion, so you can really fill 'er up.

I feel so accomplished! This project makes a great gift you can totally customize with the interests of the recipient, or to coordinate with a special trip or occasion. This Tropicale version will be perfect for documenting photos from our Caribbean vacation last year.

Why not give this special binding a try? If you do, be sure to share your finished work on our Club Scrap Chat group on Facebook. Hope to "see" you there!
