It all started with the Silver Sparkle paper from the Celebrate collection. Folks loved it so much, they asked if we could carry it in other colors. The bad news? It's not available in other colors. The good news? You can custom tint this beautifully sparkly (but non-shedding) paper any color you want!
I was inspired by Donna Coughlin, who was successful tinting the paper with alcohol inks. But what if one doesn't HAVE alcohol inks? I set out to experiment with our Hybrid Ink Pads and Re-inkers. And guess what? It totally works! You get beautiful color with the gorgeous "sparkle" still shining through.
Here are a few of the colors I tried:
Keep in mind, the Silver Sparkle paper is coated, making it a non-porous surface. Allowing extra drying time is essential to your success. Using a heat tool will speed the drying process, but it does curl the paper a bit. (I was successful in uncurling the paper, so not a big deal.)
When applying the ink from the Re-inkers, "a little dab will do ya". I'm not kidding, a little goes a long way. I suggest using a non-stick craft sheet to protect your work surface and a paper towel or soft cloth to blend the color. Warning: Your fingers WILL be inky! You can also apply ink with your Hybrid ink pads "direct to paper", but you'll still need to blend the color.
Here are some cards I created using Silver Sparkle paper, Love Knot Remix papers and Crewel & Unusual Greeting and Jumbo UM stamps.
This awesome paper is available in several sizes/weights:
Celebrate 8.5 x 11" Silver Sparkle Text Weight
12x12" Silver Sparkle Text Weight
8.5 x 11" Silver Sparkle Cover Weight (a bit heavier than text weight)
So grab a few extra sheets of Silver Sparkle and get tinting. The possibilities are endless (and it's kind of addicting).
Happy crafting!
