Hello Crafters! Hetty Sanders here with the new challenge technique for July. I chose to dig up an old--but still very fun--one: the spinner card.

Spinners are simple to make--just create a "window", then hang a die cut shape (or a stamped image or sentiment) inside the opening. The secret to the spinner card is to build layers.

SPINNER CARD HOW-TO

Use a die (or craft knife and cutting mat) to create a window in your stamped ivory card panel. (Your window can be any shape--I chose a circle.)

Position the stamped panel onto a gold mat to determine window location. Tip: Use washi tape to hold the die in place while cutting.

Repeat the steps above to cut a corresponding window into the front of your light yellow card base. (Not shown.)

For the spinner, I imagined a butterfly dancing amongst the flowers, so I used dies to cut two open and one closed butterfly.

Adhere the butterfly layers with a piece of thread sandwiched between them. (I used a few drops of glue down the center, leaving the wings loose.)

Once the butterfly is assembled, center it in the opening of the gold mat layer, using tape to keep it in place.

Layer the elements in the following order: Attach the decorative ivory panel on top of the gold mat layer (this hides the mechanics of the spinner, as well as keeps the thread secure), then adhere to front of the light yellow card base.

Stamp the happy birthday sentiment (Fizz) onto ivory, mat with gold, and adhere to front of card.

I invite you to stop by my Craft Chaos blog to see more of my spinner creations.
