This Classic Stitch Bound Book components kit will provide a great way to advance your basic crafting skills. It's time to revisit a basic version of this project after teaching it for many years.

The components kit is quite basic, but includes the necessary foundation for your book. The 5x7" size is absolutely perfect for 4x6" photos or note taking. You will also find three yards of Irish waxed linen thread, binding ribbon, and a blunt-tipped needle in the kit. The 1/8" thick book board covers are 5-1/8x7-1/4" and provide a forgiving margin for the stitched book block.

Club Scrap's monthly Page Kits consistently contain twelve 12x12" papers, photo mats, cutaparts, and embellishments, and we've created a way to cleverly adapt them to complete the project. Special release collections contain sixteen sheets of paper, and a larger book can be made by following the same steps.

We made our first three books with the Western, Hello, Sunshine, and Vintage Americana Page Kits, using nearly everything in each collection.

Book Cloth Options

Ideally, cover the boards of the book with our beautiful book cloth. It's available in four color schemes. Each package contains two each of 8.5x11" book cloth in four different colors, for a total of eight sheets.

We thought it might be handy to have a little chart to help pair a page kit with a book cloth set. Karen sifted through several recent releases and discovered some lovely combinations. This extremely unique material is manufactured in the US and has been used for bookmaking and luxury packaging since 1896. The US government also uses the non-aqueous coated fabric for passports!

Many of you may already possess the tools and materials required for projects like this. If not, a modest investment will help you achieve the best possible results. Here is a complete list of the tools and supplies listed in the book assembly instructions:

Facebook LIVE Event

Speaking of instructions, learn how to make this book along with me at our LIVE event planned for Tuesday, July 21 at 3pm Central Time on the Club Scrap Facebook page. Mark your calendar to watch live, or enjoy access to the archived video at your convenience.

The workshop will have three sections: preparing the page kit by trimming the 12x12" papers, preparing and stitching the signatures into a book block, and wrapping/attaching the book covers. If this is your first stitched book experience, you may want to simply follow along on the initial viewing. The video will be saved and archived for viewing once the live concludes.

I plan on using the upcoming July kit, Prism, and the Brights book cloth during my live workshop, but you can substitute with any kit in your stash. If you don't plan on using a page kit, I recommend gathering two each of six colors of 12x12 paper.

Whether you're proficient at bookbinding, or a novice, I hope you can join me for the live event.

Happy bookmaking!

Tricia
