Create this Interactive Journal project perfect for showcasing your favorite travel photos. Tricia recently taught a virtual workshop for the Interactive Journal on the VOLUME YouTube Channel. I couldn't wait to recreate it with the Cartography collection.

Cartography Interactive Journal

Gather the following supplies and tools:

Cartography Page Kit
Interactive Journal Instructions Download
(2) 12x12 Steel Gray* Folding Board
Hook and Loop Dots
CS® Bookbinding Glue in a Needle-tipped Applicator
12” Paper Trimmer
3x14" Grid Ruler
Scor Pal 1/8s
Accordion Pocket File (optional)
Bone Folder
Corner Chomper
Envelope Punch Board
Pencil
Scissors

*Steel Gray Folding Board has since sold out, but either Black and Dark Kraft would work beautifully with this collection as well!

To recreate this project with the Cartography collection, utilize the following paper substitutions when sorting and trimming your papers.

Paper A = Khaki
Paper B = Blue
Paper C = Dk. Gray
Paper D = Lt. Gray
Paper E = Mountain Print
Paper F = Ocean Print

The finished journal size is 6x8" with a 1.5" spine. I was careful to keep the artwork in mind when cutting the prints to ensure the large compass was the main focal image on the cover.

The book features interior pages added with Club Scrap's unique U-hinge binding system. There are so many unique interactive elements inside!

A clever pocket inside the front cover is home to a removable folio.

Retrofit the page cutaparts to embellish all of the pockets and interactive pages.

Round the a single corner of a layered mat set for added interest.

Keep the folio simple with photo mats to allow the special photos from the trip really shine.

There are always plenty of extra plain and print papers left over after the project has been fully assembled. Decorate the inside pages with flowers punched from these plentiful scraps.

Reference Tricia's Cartography Page kit instructions to replicate all of the embellishment ideas.

Assemble all of these cool accents ahead of time to make quick work of embellishing.

Note their placement on the pages below.

There are twin pocket pages that are home to a pair of trifold inserts.

The back inside cover features four stacked pockets with inserts in staggered sizes ideal for showcasing even more photos!

This project is a bit more challenging than most, but it's well worth the extra effort to transform your favorite CS® Page Kit into a really impressive handmade gift. Simply follow Tricia's step-by-step video tutorial to create a customized book to document your next special trip.
